The EAS woke me up out of a dead sleep. Normally once I’m out I’m out, but hearing that ear-piercing beep had me sit bolt upright in bed, heart pounding like a jackhammer. Even when I heard that alarm in the middle of the day it freaked me out, but at 3 AM it became the stuff of nightmares.Â
What the hell was happening? Maybe it was bad weather; something sounded like heavy rain pounding on the windows. Probably meant the basement’d be flooded in the morning.Â
A few clumsy, blind fumbles and I had the shaking, beeping phone in my hand. I’d expected a storm warning, but the message I read was much stranger.
They Are Here
That’s all it said. ‘They Are Here’.
I hardly had time to wonder what that meant before my windows shattered and hordes of the hungry dead poured in.
Cobbled together from some notes hastily typed out at 3 AM after I had a nightmare to this effect. Basically ‘EAS beeping. Cryptic warning. Zombies. I’m probably dead.’
It's 3 am and your phone lets out s shriek
It's the government calling out
The zombies are hording
They are out and about.
